Auf dem Zeltplatz haben sie einen Pfau. Ist er nicht herrlich.

In our campground was a very proud peacock. Isn't he beautiful.

Sie hatten einen Sandbau Kontest.  Der Pirate erzaehlt den zweihen ein Maerchen.

They had a sandcastle contest in Harrison Hotsprings.  The pirate is telling those two a story.

Wir hatten eine Stunde Rundfahrt gemacht in Seattle.  Das Wetter war einfach herrlich.

We took an hour cruise around the harbor in Seattle.  In the background you can see the space needle, a Seattle landmark.

Von unserem Wohnwagen aus hatten wir diesen Ausblick und haben viele Adler gesehen.

Das ist das Schiff Matanuska mit auf dehm wir mit dehm Wohnwagen waren.  Es haelt 780 Personen und 130 Autos.

This is the motor vessel Matanuska built in 1963 which carries 780 passeengers and 130 vehicles.  This was our ride from Petersburg to Juneau, a voyage of 9 hours.  They do have a cafeteria and cabins if you stay longer on the ship.

Das war das kleine 5 personen Flugzeug mit dehm wir nach Misty Fjord geflogen sind.  Ein einmaliger Flug.  Sie landen an einem Steg im Wasser und dann sind wir mit dehm Schiff zurueckgefahren.

This is our float plane that took us and one other couple from Ketchikan harbor inland over beautiful Misty Fjord where we landed on the water and transferred to ship for the 3 hour return voyage.

Wir hatten uns einen 7 Pfund Krebs gekauft.  Sie haben ihn fuer uns gekocht.  Wir haben ihn nicht gepackt.

This is a live Alaskan King Crab weighing about 7 pounds which joined us for lunch a couple hours later.  We couldn't eat it all.

Das ist der Juneau Hafen mit dehn Kreuzfahrtschiffen.  Manchmal sind 6 so grosse Schiffe im Hafen.  Jedes Schiff hat ungefaehr 3000 passagiere.  Es ist ein richtiger Zoo wenn die alle aussteigen.

Two of 6 cruise ships in Juneau Harbor, each of which carries about 3000 passengers. Its a sight to behold when they disembark.  There are more tourists floating in Juneau's harbor than live in this capital city.  Out of sight is are fleets of tourbuses, helicopters, floatplanes and excursion boats to take these passengers for a ride.

Hier ist ein Bild von dem Gletscher.  Wenn Eisbrocken runter fallen hoert es sich an als ob es donnert. 

This is the face of Sawyer Glacier which flows into the Tracy Arm Fjord.  The lower face of the glacier is about 100 feet high and extends 900 feet under water to the fjord's bottom. Glaciers are not quiet, they grumble, boom, snap,pop and rumble.  When a piece breaks loose and hits the water it sounds like thunder, echoing down the fjord.

This is a chunk of the glacier floating toward the open ocean.

Uns hat der Eisberg besonders gefallen.  Koennt Ihr das blau in dem Ice sehen?

In dem Fjord waren viele Wasserfaelle.

Hier ist ein Baer mit ihren zwei Jungen.  Sie waren so goldig.

Mama bear and baby bears - what happened to Goldilocks? -I'm not sure I would want to sleep in their bed!

Eisberg im Mendenhall See.

Iceberg floating in the lake at the base of Mendenhall Glacier.

Es war ein warmer Tag - nicht heiss, bloss warm - und Kinder haben in dem See vor dehm Gletscher gebadet.  Das Wasser war eiskalt.

Give them a warm,sunny June day and hardy Juneauens take to the ice water lake at the foot of Mendenhall Glacier like ducks to water.

Wir haben einen Garten besucht und sie hatten herrchliche Blumen.

We visited Glacier Garden.  The flowers were just beautiful.

Die Baueme sind mit dehn Wurzeln nach oben.  Ein Sturm hat die Baueme entwurzelt, so haben sie angepflanzt und Blumen darauf gemacht.

The trees are upside down.  After a storm the trees were uprooted and the garden owner decided to stick them into the ground upside down and use the roots to plant flowers.
